Home grown and operating right here in Vernon, BC, is Erik Neuhaus, your choice in residential electricians for new construction homes. A lot of the electrical work we do within new builds is custom, and with so many options available, we thought you’d like to know some of the smart home systems worth considering as you bring your plans to life. While planning your new, custom home, there are many smart home systems to consider installing or at least installing proper wiring for. Some are budget friendly and others less so. Depending on your wants and needs, we can narrow down the best options for you.
Here are a few of our favourites:
Smart Security
Your home should be your safe place, so not having to worry about the security of your home is the number one reason to consider installing a smart home security system. Keep your family safe from possible intruders and enjoy knowing who is at the door no matter where you are. Possible features include a mobile app, live and/or recorded video footage, two-way audio, window/door sensors, deadbolts that let you unlock the door with your phone, and more.
Voice Controls
You may already have daily chats with Siri, but have you considered the practical possibilities of using voice controls throughout your smart home? It’s basically the Jetsons cartoon come to life. Using voice control, you can achieve a hands-free way to control your home’s lighting, blinds, audio systems, to name a few. Having a few friends over for an intimate gathering? Do you want to set the mood with the right combination of lighting and music? Ask and you shall receive using only voice commands.
Kick Lights
Consider installing cabinet toe kick lights in the kitchen and bathroom that are operated with a motion sensor or controlled via smartphone. Toe kick lighting will bring a glow to your room when brighter, overhead lighting isn’t needed or wanted. Kick lights are both functional (think about those midnight trips to the bathroom) and stylish (bring out the best of your modern kitchen with no harsh lighting).
Strip Lighting
Strip lighting is stylish, economical, and versatile. You can build it right into cabinets, stairs, feature walls, coves, etc. Let your imagination be your guide. The lighting is easily wifi connectable to your phone or a remote-control.
Programmable Devices
Consider adding programmable devices that you can automate with the touch of a button. Smart thermostats make heating and cooling your home a breeze and provide many energy saving opportunities. Smart lighting aids in both comfort and security. Creating the right ambience is as easy as picking the perfect playlist, and being able to light up your home remotely is another way to keep your home safe from unwanted intruders.
