What is the process of wiring a new home?

November 17th 2025

The process of wiring a new home begins when we recieve the drawings. We print off the drawings and make a layout based on code and convenience, for lighting, appliances, plugs and anything else a home will require. With this we are able to generate a quote, and an item count. When we are rewarded the project, some of the behind the scenes things that have to happen are pulling our electrical permit, and lining up BC Hydro for our power connection. Typically some time during footings/ foundation stage, we come in to do our ground work. This includes main service conduit, main service wiring, and conduit for anything that may need to be ran in the slab. This is followed by an underground inspection. As framing progresses after this, we will typically come in, build the service, and install the panel, so we can get temporary power active for the remainder of the project. This is followed by a service connection inspection. Our next visit would be a walkthrough with the client to lay out the house according to their preferences. Once framing is complete, roof is installed, and HVAC/ Plumbing contractors have done their rough-ins, we will come in to do our rough-in. This includes running all wiring, terminating into boxes and panel, and all the things that happen behind closed walls. This is followed by a rough wiring complete inspection. Once drywall and paint is complete, we come back to start our finish. This is typically done in stages. We will come complete our plugs, switches, and pot lights on our first stage of finish, so that there is power and lighting throughout to help everyone do their jobs efficiently. Once final coat of paint is done we come back to do all our cover plates, lighting fixtures, and any other detail work that's left to do. After all work is complete, we call for a final inspection. This is the basic process of majority of homes that we wire. This process is second nature to us, but we know that a lot of our clients are doing this process for the first time, so it can be intimidating. We know that any information we can provide helps put your mind at ease. Any other questions about the process, please don't hesitate to ask.
